In the News: Higher Pay Leads to Smarter Teachers, Global Study Says – by Education Next
In Education Week, Madeline Will describes the findings of a new study looking at the cognitive skills of teachers in many different countries.
The study finds that teachers’ cognitive skills differ widely across the world, and that when teachers have higher cognitive skills, their students perform better academically. The countries whose teachers have higher cognitive skills are countries that have chosen “to hire teachers from higher up in the distribution of college graduates.”
The study, “Do Smarter Teachers Make Smarter Students?” by Eric A. Hanushek, Marc Piopiunik and Simon Wiederhold, appears in the Spring 2019 issue of Education Next.
