What We’re Watching: Reading and Math in the Common Core Era by Education Next
On Monday, March 28 at 4 pm, Brookings will host an online discussion of a new report that looks at how deeply the Common Core standards have penetrated schools and classrooms. The research is part of the 2016 Brown Center Report on American Education. Brookings’ Tom Loveless will describe his findings, which focus on the emphasis of non-fiction vs. fiction texts in reading and on enrollment in advanced courses in mathematics, with Matt Chingos of the Urban Institute. They will also discuss Loveless’s new research on the relationship between ability group tracking in eighth grade and AP performance in high school.
